PRESS STATEMENT

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the Indianapolis Housing Agency was notified that it was selected to receive funding under the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) FY 2025 Capital Improvements for At-Risk, Receivership, Substandard, and Troubled Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) program. This is an opportunity for critical federal investment in public housing agencies working to overcome significant operational and physical challenges.

HUD's Capital Improvements for At-Risk/Receivership/Substandard/Troubled PHAs funding recognizes an important reality: stabilizing a housing authority requires more than improving internal operations. It also requires meaningful investment in the properties and communities we are entrusted to serve.

For IHA, improving the condition of our properties is a critical part of A New Day & Better IHA and our ongoing work to rebuild an agency that our residents, employees, and community can depend on. The $3 Million award will support capital improvement efforts at IHA's public housing community, Concord Apartments. This award will help us address critical capital needs, improve the quality and safety of our public housing, reduce long-term vacancies, and return more units to productive use for the families who need them.

Since I joined IHA, our focus has been clear, to stabilize the agency, strengthen our systems, improve our properties, and restore confidence in IHA. We have made significant progress, but we also recognize that decades of deferred maintenance needs cannot be addressed overnight. Federal investment of this magnitude can accelerate that progress and help ensure the transformation underway at IHA reaches where it matters most: the housing and quality of life of our residents.
