Re: Temporary Pause on Rent Increases
Effective July 10, 2025, the Indianapolis Housing Agency (IHA) will temporarily pause the processing of all new rent increase requests for Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) units through the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2026.
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program provides housing assistance for qualified low-income families in the rental market. Voucher holders are able to select a unit from the private rental market. As long as their housing choice meets reasonable rent requirements determined by IHA, program participants pay no more than 30% of their monthly adjusted income toward rent and utilities. The housing assistance payment subsidizes the balance of the rent to the property owner. IHA administers the federal HCV Program, more commonly known as Section 8, currently allowing more than 8,000 families to choose and lease safe, decent and affordable privately-owned housing in Marion County.

Using Your Voucher
As an eligible participant in the federal government's HCV Program, you will be able to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market. Once IHA has issued you your voucher, you will be free to choose any housing that meets program requirements and an IHA inspection. You should consider several options before making your choice. Your choice is not limited to subsidized housing projects. Using funds from HUD, IHA will pay a housing subsidy directly to your landlord on your behalf.
