IHA Community Corner
My dearest residents and program participants,
I hope this message finds you well and thriving! I'm excited to share some welcomed updates and reaffirm my heartfelt commitment to our collective journey to a better IHA.
In our recent May Bean Blast, I shared the privilege of unveiling my transformative 12-month Action Plan, A New Day & Better IHA, at a media event-a blueprint that redefines our commitment to providing housing with dignity and purpose.
This plan is not just a series of steps; it is a reinvigoration of our core values, a renewed vision, and a promise to our community that meaningful change is both necessary and inevitable.
As Georg C. Lichtenberg wisely stated, "I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I CAN say is they MUST change if they are to get better."
This powerful insight underpins our resolve to evolve, ensuring that every action we take resonates with the real needs and aspirations of the people we serve.
Thank you for being an integral part of our journey. As we continue to move forward, I remain steadfast in my promise to prioritize progress and embrace every opportunity to better serve you.
Let's look forward to even greater achievements together!
Yours in housing,
Yvonda A. Bean, CEO ' Indianapolis Housing Agency

Happy Homeownership Month!!
Since 1995, homeownership has been a beacon of hope, inspired first by President Clinton and later expanded by President Bush in 2002. Today, the HUD HCV Homeownership Program turns dreams into reality. We're thrilled to share Tiffany's story-an IHA employee who unlocked her future with the keys of security, stability, and opportunity.
"As a longtime resident of Indianapolis and a voucher holder, I have always dreamed of owning my own home. IHA's HCV Homeownership Program gave me the opportunity to turn that dream into reality. When I first learned about the homeownership program, I knew I wanted to be a part of it, but I also recognized that I needed a stable job to start this significant process. I was very excited, though unsure if I would qualify or if homeownership was truly within arm's reach. However, the program staff were welcoming, supportive, and clearly explained each step of the process. Through the program, I received financial literacy training, credit counseling, and help with budgeting. The housing counselors helped me understand the mortgage process and connected me with real estate professionals who guided me through the home buying journey. I am grateful to IHA for their continued support and commitment to helping families, like mine, who dream of a home of their own."

President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law on June 17, 2021, making Juneteenth (June 19) a federal holiday. At the signing ceremony, President Biden delivered remarks highlighting the historical significance of Juneteenth, which marks the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger announced the Emancipation Proclamation in Galveston, Texas, effectively freeing the last enslaved people in the U.S. President Biden also emphasized the continuing need for racial justice and equality.
In his remarks, President Biden stated that Juneteenth is a day to "remember the moral stain, the terrible toll that slavery took on the country and continues to take," and he called it "America's original sin". He also spoke about the need to "make good on the promise" of the founding fathers to all Americans, particularly Black Americans.
In essence, President Biden's message recognized Juneteenth as a national holiday not only to honor the end of slavery but also to acknowledge the ongoing struggle for racial justice and equality in the United States.
